R.S. 8:655: a person named in a notarized declaration, then the surviving spouse, then a majority of adult children, then parents, then a majority of siblings.

Scattering. Louisiana has no statute broadly prohibiting scattering; ashes may be scattered on your own property, on other private land with permission, or at sea consistent with the federal Clean Water Act (3 nautical miles offshore). Cremated remains may not be scattered on another person's property without consent.
