The Minnesota rules that apply either way
Waiting period. Minnesota law does not impose a fixed hours-based waiting period. Under Minn. Stat. §149A.95, a body may be cremated only when accompanied by a valid cremation authorization and a disposition permit, and the crematory must have a signed release authorizing cremation from the coroner or medical examiner.
Who authorises the disposition. Cremation requires written authorization from the person with the legal right to control final disposition, following the next-of-kin priority order in Minn. Stat. §149A.80 (surviving spouse, then a majority of adult children, then parents, then a majority of adult siblings, and on down the line).
Scattering. Minnesota has no state law restricting where cremated remains may be kept or scattered. Scatter on private land with the owner's permission; cemeteries that permit scattering must designate a scattering area, and scattering at sea must be at least 3 nautical miles offshore under the federal Clean Water Act. Check local city and county rules for public land.

Your rights under the FTC Funeral Rule
The FTC Funeral Rule, 16 C.F.R. Part 453, applies in Minnesota as it does in every state.
